A number of years ago I was participating in a creativity course and the final assignment
was to create something that told about where we came from, where we were right then,
and where we desired to go. I created the song Movin' On as my final project.

So here it is; my life in three short verses!

Movin’ On

For years I floundered in despair
I didn’t know that Life was there
I was chained by secrets I dared not share
Silenced by a voiceless fear.
Then a miracle came and let me see
The many burdens I’d brought with me
And the chance to finally be free
To be movin’ on …

Movin’ on. Movin’ on.
Yesterday is dead and gone
And I’m movin’ on.

I step from the darkness into the Light
Though it stings my eyes, I'll be alright
This new day is a wondrous sight
I embrace it and I hold it dear.
Now yesterday has no hold on me
I do my best and I let it be
And joy is all I bring with me
As I’m movin’ on…

Movin’ on. Movin’ on.
Yesterday is dead and gone
And I’m movin’ on.

My safety now comes from above
My heart is free like a winging dove
And when I ‘ere it’s on the side of Love
In freedom I sing out clear.
And if on this path you’d like to be
I wouldn’t mind some company
You’re welcome to come along with me
Lets be movin on …

Movin’ on. Movin’ on.
Yesterday is dead and gone
And I’m movin’ on! …

If you hear music...dance!
If you don't hear music...sing!
If you walk barefoot
along the path of the heart,
your singing will not awaken
the sleepers nor will your
dancing disturb the self-righteous.

But the birds will follow you
and take from your hand
some crumbs and
sing to you their truth.

I did not know I was on a search for a
passionate aliveness.
I only knew I was lonely and lost and that
something was drawing me deeper
beneath the surface of my life,
in search of meaning.
There is a hunger in people to
touch those depths;
to know that our lives are sacred;
that our hearts are truly capable of love.
It is a yearning to be all that we can be.
A longing for what is real.
